I don't usually post on weekends, so in honor of Father's Day I thought I'd share this picture a day late. It's a photo of my dad from before I was born. I think it was taken in the late '50's but I'm not sure. He looks like a regular bad ass, doesn't he? Between his car, the jacket, the cigar in his hand and his, "I'm too cool for the world," posture, he leaves little room for doubt.
I could write a novel about my father. He's currently in his 70's and he's had a very, very, interesting life. He's quite a character and it's impossible to describe him in just a few sentences. Due to a rocky childhood, he moved in with his best friend's family as a teen. Intellectually gifted, he went on to work for NASA for most of his career.
Yes my dad, Mr. Bad Ass, is a rocket scientist.
When I was young my dad was a strict disciplinarian. I remember being scared to death of making him angry. In turn, he remembers me as the only one of his children who would stand up to him, look him in the eye, and declare emphatically, "No!" with full defiance and no outward sign of fear. (Inside I was quaking with concern over repercussions from my rebellious attitude, but my fear apparently never surmounted my boldness.)
I was an adult before my parents informed me he respected my daring and that it was all he could do not to laugh at my obstinance. Oh, how I wish someone had told me that when I was five!
My dad is now a grandpa several times over. He's the biggest softy imaginable.
Happy Father's Day dad! I love you!

A very nice tribute to your Dad. You are blessed to have a dad such as this!

Nice pic.
Its funny how they mellow as they get older. I've never known the hardass that my mother and aunts swear my grandfather is...and my sister is being raised by a completely different man than my brother and I were raised by. Time does some funny things. :)

What an awesome thing to learn about your father, even if it is after you were "five"!
My own dad is nothing to be proud of but my Step-Dad did a pretty good job filling in where the lame ass left off.
Now I'm just happy to have given my own children a wonderful step-dad to look up to. He loves them as if they were his own - even all their obstinence! (and they have LOTS of that).
Hope Briefcase had a wonderful day! It looked gorgous there - and it was here too. I have a sunburnt face to prove it! HA!

Ah, lucky you - a great dad. Who is not only a complete bad ass (and darn good looking - I take it you favor him), but a rocket scientist to boot.
I am respectfully envious.

Dr. No.
Love that photo. Love him more. He is an amazing man and I can't wait for him to meet E-man. They're one-in-the-same.

Va-va-voom, baby! Daddy was a hottie when he was a youngun. Isn't it amazing how our perception of our parents is so often the opposite of what they think we see, and vice versa?
It's great to have a great dad, isn't it?

Very cool. You're a bad ass too!

It's a good thing your daddy is a grandpa now or he would be classified, by today's standards, as DILF. LOL
Great photo. Love the car, your dad's swagger and the fact that he was a rocket scientist! He had the goods to back it up. Apparently, there was brains in the handsome head of his. Can't always say that today.LOL
Thanks for sharing that with us.

Great photo... sexy car, and the guy is pretty easy on the eyes, too. Rocket scientist. That explains a lot... such as why your blog is so stellar. :)
