For all of my readers ...
Many of you have heard about, but never experienced, the Santa Ana Winds of Southern California. These winds are particularly fierce in our foothills and canyons. As many of you know, I live in a major wind tunnel canyon.
Thursday morning I was woken up by the sound of our (very heavy) patio furniture being blown around on our upstairs deck. It's hard to describe the Santa Ana Winds but this picture of my palm trees might give you a little feel for what they're like.
Woah! that's a cool picture!! We get some wicked winds here too. One of the drawbacks to living in a valley I guess.
Emailed you...I'm so excited to have a 24 calendar! Squeeee!!!

We seem to have windy weather in the springtime but otherwise not so much. When I grew up in the Midwest we had LOTS of wind because the land is so flat... nothing to stop the wind and definitely no valleys. Guess that's why our snowfalls are always so gorgeous here, no wind so the snow falls straight down out of the sky.

(I remember the palm trees in Arizona used to take quite a beating too when the monsoon season sets in)

It's hard to tell from the picture but I'm actually in it. Submitting this comment from a hospital bed. Guess I picked the wrong day to climb your palm tree.

That's a great photo - I'm getting motion sickness just looking at it!

Wow, cool image. Living on an island, wind is a fact of life. Round about April first, I want to tear my hair out. So I've always been intriuged by the concept of the Santa Anna winds and El Nino, that whole thing. Will they last a while, or is it an off-on type of thing?
Does it get annoying?

Congrats to the winners--awesome! And very cool photo! We live in an 1880-built home outside of Boston and when the wind gets really crazy and it feels like it's going to rip the side of the house off, I have to remind myself that it's stood like this for 130 years! Somehow that doesn't comfort my kids, though. ;-)

Ack I have been swamped and am behind in my blog reading so missed the chance to win a calendar. :(
Can I purchase a print of the September photo? How do I go about doing that?
Thanks
Nancy P.

Wow. That is some wind. We've been having wind, but it just drives the chill factor down so it's not "cool"...it's damn cold.
Congrats to your photo calendar winners! Have a great weekend, 24.
Be well.

Makes me dizzy just looking at it... I hate wind. I hate the feeling of not being able to breathe when it's blowing around you. Growing up in Northern Nevada I've heard a lot about how fierce the Santa Ana winds can be. I don't think I'd survive the Santa Ana's.

Yay! I'm so happy
I don't like the wind either. It's irritating. I'd rather have rain.

Wow I'm a winner! But I couldn't get the e-mail to go out.

That IS some wind. I think it is more windy here than it used to be. It must be because of global warming.
