Punishable By Law

Railroad tracks run parallel to many of our local beaches.  There are certain areas designated for pedestrians to cross the tracks.  If you cross the tracks other than in the designated spots, you can be ticketed by the police.

I saw someone get a ticket for this very thing just a couple weeks ago.

The idea, of course, is to keep people safe.  In reality, the people who die on local railroad tracks are usually suicides or people who are so intoxicated they lay down on the tracks for a nap.  In other words, the vast majority of people are smart enough to know to get out of the way if a train is headed down the tracks.  The trains are so loud, it is impossible not to hear them coming.

As you can see in the above photo, most people pay little attention to the warning signs and take whatever shortcut to and from the beach they can find.

I've never done anything like this.

Nope, not me ... not once.

(Maybe a zillion times ... but definitely not ONCE!)
