When I was in high school I used to volunteer as a worker on the floats for the Rose Parade. I would volunteer for days at a time and glue flowers, flower petals, and other plant material on the floats. I came home with ruined clothes and glue and seeds stuck in my hair. In addition, I would work for about 24 hours straight the day before the parade, spending New Year's Eve right there - decorating the floats.
(Oh sure, sometimes we'd sneak a little alcohol in too; we thought we were clever and sneaky teenagers!)
After working all night long on a float, I'd stay and watch the parade once it started. I'd eventually wander home sometime in the afternoon for a nap.
Yesterday, I woke up at 4 a.m. to make the trip from Orange County to Pasadena to watch the parade.
As you can see from the above photo, it was a picture perfect day.
But waking at 4 a.m?
It nearly killed me.
I didn't move off the couch all afternoon.
I think I've gotten old .....
Zzzzzzzz!

Great shot! Hope you enjoyed your nap... I know this old fogie lives for naps.

Isn't it something... those little things that let you know you aren't the spring chicken you used to be. *sigh* But hey, it sure beats the alternative.
Loving this camera... but oh good God trying to learn all it's tricks.

Can't wait for more details and photos. I love the Rose Parade and one day I would like to see it in person or go visit the floats on display.

I am full of admiration for your energetic spirit -- getting up and out at 4AM! The parade looks wonderfully festive, but no wonder you needed a nice long nap!

I have been to see the floats after the parade, but never the parade itself. Too many people in one place for me. Hey, maybe I am old too. ;) Happy New Year.
