One of my photos has been selling very well these last couple weeks.
In fact, my own mom tried to buy it for her house and I had to stop the order when I realized what she was up to.
You see, my mom has a tremendous affinity for hummingbirds. My parents live (retired) on about 13 acres up in Oregon. My mom puts multiple hummingbird feeders up every spring and summer. She's had a love for these beautiful birds her entire life and passed the trait along to me.
Knowing how much she loves hummingbirds, I had already planned to gift my mom with this photo:
I ordered it for her sized as an 8 x 10, in what is called a photo standout. While I was at it, I ordered an extra one to give away to one of you.
From the front it's cropped a little and looks like this:
(Sorry, the above is not the greatest photo-of-a-photo. Also, the "real" thing doesn't have my watermark on it.)
A standout, however, is like a box - thus, it stands out.
The sides are black. The standout doesn't need to be framed.
It even has "holes" in the back to mount it, making it easy-peasy to hang.
A standout photo makes an awesome gift, or better yet - keep it for yourself!
I have ONE to give away and all you have to do is leave a comment to be entered to win. This is an unsponsored giveaway, meaning it's my gift to you just because.
• You may enter as many times as you'd like. (Your email address will only be seen by me.)
• You may enter even if you live outside the United States.
• Contest closes at 9 p.m. Pacific time tonight.
• Winner will be chosen using Random.org and announced tomorrow.
Good luck!

This is so pretty. I would give it to my host mom. Through her I learned to watch and love birds and she has a ton of bird feeders in her backyard in Southern Indiana, which she often refills together with her grandsons, who already love the birds, too. I know she absoltuely adores hummingbrids and would love this. And I am sure that your mom enjoys it, too. Have a great day! Thank you.

That photo is amazing, those little suckers don't stay still for long! Too cute that you had already planned to give it to her. Are you still going to be able to surprise her?

As with all your photos, this one is stunning. The winner is very lucky to get such a cool gift.

Woohoo!! I *LOVE* this photo!! I don't have a place to hang anything right now since we are between jobs and waiting to hear something and buy a house (keep your fingers crossed)! :)

OOoh, I love this. Last year I tried welcoming humming birds to This Old House, but for some reason they were not happy with the feeder I chose, which is the standard glass with stopper on the bottom feeder. I must try something different, because I love them too.

If the random generator would land on this number, I would love to give this to my good friend Paula. Hummingbirds are particularly meaningful to her because of her mother. After her mother passed away from a very painful and difficult with cancer, Paula kept seeing hummingbirds in odd locations days afterwards. She has told me this story many times, and just felt that was a sign from her mother, telling her to stop worrying about her. She was fine and in a better place. Seeing a hummingbird is always a beautiful reminder of her mother.

When she turned 50, she even got a hummingbird tattoo on her ankle. Love, love, love it... her birthday is coming up and then mother's day.

I have a feeling I will win this hummingbird. It's my grandma's birthday today, she loves hummingbirds, and I don't have a sufficient gift for her!
Posted by: Haley | April 07, 2011 at 06:03 AM
I bought my first hummingbird feeder a couple of weeks ago. I haven't put it out yet, but I hope the hummingbirds come when I put it up. They're so cute!
Posted by: Steph | April 07, 2011 at 06:25 AM
Do you use a pre-made/store bought nectar in your feeder, or do you make your own?
Posted by: Steph | April 07, 2011 at 06:27 AM
You need to view the video on my sidebar about the hummingbird... it's great! Your mom would probably love it!

Posted by: Shannon | April 07, 2011 at 07:06 AM
That is beautiful. I also love hummingbirds and snap pictures of them at my feeders all of the time. I don't think I ever got as nice of a picture as yours. I'll have to keep trying!
Posted by: Kay | April 07, 2011 at 07:07 AM
I meant to say.... A photography class. :) not a class on photos, but a class on how to tale good ones.

As always the picture is beautiful and so well composed. But yesterday's post was hysterical! As a reader it's a surprise each morning to see what awaits us.

My mother has hummingbird feeders all over the backyard and we freak out one of them flits in for a snack. She would LOVE this print!

We have one or two hummingbird regulars who come to our water fountain in the backyard for water. They're amazing to watch.

I've been trying to figure out what photo of yours I want to buy. I've got some empty office space that needs an ocean photo. I love this one also.

Posted by: Jo Anne | April 07, 2011 at 11:35 AM
This is also my favorite photo that you've shown, so I am excited that you are giving this away. I bought my first hummingbird feeder about 10 years ago and when the hummingbrds are migrating late in the summer, I have to fill it every other day because they feed on it so much. I have my feeder placed where I can sit and eat my breakfast/drink my coffee and watch them in the morning.

I'm so glad that the giveaway wasn't postponed again due to some OTHER kind of dryness. Your post yesterday had me in tears!
I, too, love hummingbirds-a trait which I shared with my grandmother. My very first cross stitching project was a hummingbird, which I gave to her for a gift. My mother gave it back to me after my grandmother died, so now it's hanging in my house. I would love to have the standout to hang near my desk and remind me to sit still enough for long enough to see the hummingbirds. Plus, it's just beautiful!

Thanks for your daily posts. They brighten my days!

Have you seen this stream of a hummingbird's nest? I think it's right near you:
http://www.ustream.tv/hummingbirdnestcam
The most recent babies fledged yesterday, but momma should be laying more eggs. It's fascinating to watch when the babies hatch and get fed.
Beautiful shot.

Oh! They have a stream of the fledge, and others, on youtube:

with others listed of the same nest with previous batches. Your mom could get lost for hours....
